As I wrongly thought that March was going to like last year ( above freezing) I thought at the end of Feb that I would tax Valerie after sorn, oh dear what a job!!
Couldn't do it on line as I could not tick all the boxes ie Do you you have a current MOT, of course I don't as it's a first registration last August and wont need an MoT for 3 years. Try the Post office, cant do it no MOT although it doesn't need one, computer says "NO" nice chap in post office gives me a number to ring, number not in use, recording suggests new number, ring new number, got through to VOSA not DVLA ?. Vosa give me another number, this time DVLA who tell me to go back to the Post Office who ring their helpline who tell me to go back to DVLA, as if I didn't have anything better to do.
So up to Stoke Gifford I go with all paperwork on board and only after the gent behind the counter had two 5 minute meetings with his collegues, 3 phone calls, filling out an MOT exemption certificate which was no good as it is not a track laying vehicle or horse drawn carriage and I showed him an Email i had from DVLA stating that the car did not need an MOT  (thanks Yellabelly) I finally had a years TAX !!!!. God knows what will happen after December when the regional offices close, we'll all have to drive to Swansea !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Has the whole world gone mad or just me :P :P :P

'The Gaffer'

What a nightmare :( Glad you got it sorted in the end.

Don't worry, it'll all be OK in a year or two... then your car will need an MOT and be "on the system" so no worries (well, apart from the actual MOT!)

Even the local offices are a bit rubbish these days, when I was trying to register mine a few years ago I couldn't ring the local office to make an appointment any more because the'd been nationalised to swansea so had to go down there ad-hoc. I turn up only to find "the person who knows about kit cars isn't herer today, can you come back next week?", after about 4 trips (not including the inspection) and being told it had to be Q'd 3 times, I got my NEW registration

Wow what a pain in the butt mate.. Another reason for me not to building my own kit  ;D

It seems that no ones system can cope with a new reg "Q" plate yet.

Glad you got it sorted Peter :)

I went to the local office in Yate on Saturday only to find they were on strike! :( So I went to another one nearby, and thankfully they were open, although there was a major queue as everyone was taxing their cars!

Thought I would have an issue because of the MOT thing, and also my insurance docs are still under the VIN number and not yet got the Reg on (thought I'd sorted that). Anyhow, showed her the paperwork, explained about the DVLA email and insurance, and got "6 months or twelve?" Bargain! sorted out at last. Let's just hope it's as easy next time....
