The neighbour out he back has just given me a big ol' pile of wood from some trees he 's cut down, I've got a nice big chain saw but I was wondering if anyone had a hydraulic or electric wood splitter that I could borrow for a weekend?

Hi Darren,

I've got an electric one if it's any use. It depends on the diameter of the logs though. I've used it for logs up to about 8" but I wouldn't think it would cope with much more without straining it.

Let me know mate.

That'd be great, even up to 8" will help get through a fair old wedge of them - i'll get in touch when I find a spare weekend!

Hi Grin-a-lot

If the splitter will not do all of the big logs try a Wood grenade.  Just tap one of these in at the centre of the log and give it a few whacks with a sledge hammer and a trunk will magically  become four logs in a few blows and use a pry bar for the final separation.  They work easier on one year old logs but they do work on fresh one as well.  See Screwfix http://www.screwfix.com/p/roughneck-wood-grenade-log-splitter/51334.  Remember to wear a lumberjack shirt tied around your waist and let your well muscled body glisten as you work - young ladies then arrive with beer and conversation - enjoy!  ;)
