BIG decision, but.....

Well, as most of you know, we are moving down to Cornwall this year, and having got the go-ahead on a place we pick up the keys on 28th Feb!! We are due to be out of the house in Burton by 11th Mar so not long really.

After much clearing out of parts (see other for sale thread), and a lot of soul searching, I have made the very difficult decision to sell the Locost

It is not a decision I took lightly, but after weighing up the pro's and con's, the only pro's I can think of are "It's fun to drive and meet-up in" and "I want to keep it". All the Con's tell me it is right to sell her. I achieved my goal of building a car from scratch and getting it on the road, and have had about 16 months of fun driving it. But I have not used it as much as I would have liked for various reasons, and apart from this, it is just another expense I really cannot afford. We have almost got the Midget on the road, and this has taken up a lot of my time, the Landrover now runs but needs a fair bit of welding for the MOT, and the money I could make from the Locost is badly needed at the moment with the move and all.

So, I will wait for all the 'NO, don't do it" cries but what I would like is some help in deciding how much I should sell her for. Just to recap:

McSorley +442 Locost, IVA'd July 2012
2L Pinto with 32/36 Weber
5-speed Type-9 gearbox
Cobra seats (very comfy )

The alternator still overcharges slightly, but I have another one to try, and the speedometer has quit (I think it is the drive, but I have an electronic conversion I will put with the car. I also have kept the original R1 exhaust with pipes I fitted to the car initially.

I have surprised myself, but I have made up my mind.

I will still stay a member of the club as it is most definitely one of the best around, and one day I would like to get another kit, but just one that has had all the IVA etc. 'cos it's too much hassle

Any help/advice here is welcome guys.

Good luck with the move and I hope the sale of your car goes well, it has been interesting and fascinating watching it being built from scratch here on the forum.

Hopefully you will get a little more sunshine down there to enjoy the Midget. Sorry I have no idea what your kit is worth.

Tough choose to make JB but I'm sure you put a lot of thought into it. Still I'm sure in time you may be tempted to get another and will look forward to seeing that post.. Well may be.

Yep, it was a tough choice Steve but as Pete said, needs must. Sorry, but the place has only parking for 2-3 cars and NO GARAGE!! I'll be like a dog with no legs!!

Lovely quiet village though, and the nearest pub is around 20 secs walk so I'm sure I can drown my sorrows if need be

I can always keep a look-out for somewhere for a run-out though chap

Sad news JB.... hope all goes well with the move and the sale of the car. At least you've got the satisfaction of having a scratch build under your belt, which is more than most us would take on

Sorry to here about your decision to sell the car JB but in the circumstances you never really had a choice.

As for the car I suggest a price no more than £5500 but be prepared to take less as most buyers prefer a Zetec in there rather than the simplicity of the Pinto.

Your spec. is similar to mine but newer.   Stupott picked up a tidy one the other day to use as a track car to save his Cobra, although older than yours he beat him down from £3500 approx to £2600 I believe because he couldn't sell it easily.

Anyway, good luck with the move and the sell.

I have been looking into a run down through Dartmoor National Park, There looks like some lovely roads through there. So we will be on your doorstep.    As well as some other runs down south so hurry up & get the MG ready as the Locost has to go.

Keep it and join Newquay Car Club and do the Cornish Speed Championship which includes Sprints and Hillclimbs,  i've been doing it for years, they are a great bunch and all willing to help and give advice
