Thought I would share what I have been upto over the last couple of days...

Last weekend I got hold of a cheap bonnet to use as my spare race one, which would mean I could keep my original one as best...

This soon turned into a repair job as it was cracked by the previous owner under transportation... hey ho... this is only going to be my spare :)

Anyway after some repair work in glass it was structurally ok and I set about marking up what I wanted to do with it... ie cut a load of holes in it to allow heat to be removed from my engine bay...

Marker in hand I wanted to do something i'd seen on another westy over on passionford... so this was all marked out and then cut out with HSS hole cutters and a jigsaw... My thinking... it doesn't matter if it chips...

To my suprise it suffered very little chips... and the job done I thought looked pretty good...

Since then I have been slowly changing the colour of it from Canary Yellow to orange. and so 1 can of primer, 4 cans of VW Brilliant orange lb20b and 1 can of Ford pheonix orange to tone down orange to match here is the finished result...

Just need to rest for a couple of days before adding the final layers of lacquer...

Really happy with the results though :) especially the vents over the exhaust.

Fancy passing on some tips as to how you got such a good finish ?

RobC

dunno... just sprayed it... :) took 5 cans in total mind so just built it up let it dry then add on...

you can if you look see some stroke marks from the cans passes but these are mostly on the main top part...

pleased with it minus the dribbles  >:(
