Firmtec Shift Lights

I'm thinking about fitting a shift light to the car to act as a rev limit warning as the tacho is largely obscured by the wheel.  Like all these things I'm aiming to get something basic that simply lights up at a programmed rpm to remind me to change gear or slow down.  I looked at rev limiters but at approx £100 it seems overkill for my needs.

Firmtec seem to sell something that fits the bill for about £30 which takes it signal from the coil and I am aiming to spend as little as possible.  So has anyone got any experience of these shift lights or recommend alternatives (apart from learning to change gear, listening better etc etc).

I've got no engine management gubbins so not interested in anything that takes a feed from an ECU etc!

Cheers!

I had the same problem with my speedo/rev counter cluster, so I have a 3-1/2 inch rev counter in a pod mounted on the top of the dash with a shift change light on it.

It works really well being in my eye line and looks good, it can be set to what revs you want (mine's set to 6500rpm.)

Well I took the plunge & bought these shift lights and they're just as described on the tin.

Once you cut off the cigarette lighter end there are 3 cables, switched live, earth and signal.  Take the signal from the coil and away you go!

Easy to programme the shift point and the 3 warning lights come on at 200rpm intervals.

I want it as a warning that I'm approaching a rev range that my crossflow won't like and the bright LEDs will do just that so 10/10 from me!
