Willtd5

Good afternoon, this is my first post.
Cant see on the site where I can search previous posts, so here goes:-
I've just bought a Robin Hood with a 2.1 Pinto engine with short sump & managed to ground it & damage the engine!
Can anyone recommend who I should go to to get this rebuilt & how much this is likely to cost?

Thanks in advance.....

Grin-a-lot

Hi and welcome, I guess it depends on the damage but I believe there's a highly regarded builder in Chipping Sodbury called Phil Jones - he might be worth a call.

Sorry I can't help you any further, its not something i've had to investigate...so far...

Hello, and welcome to the forum :)

It's like Darren says, without knowing what damage you are talking about it's difficult to say. If it's casting damage then it will definitely need specialist attention.

Welcome along.
Sorry to hear about the damage tho.. What sort of damage? I'm guessing the sump is toast and also the bottom end?? Will a photo show the damage?
Steve.

Sorry to here about your engine.....must have hit it hard! ::)

Like people have said a few details would help but parts are relatively cheap as long as the engine casing is ok or you will probably need a new bottom end! :(

'The Gaffer'

Hi and a warm welcome to our club :)

The search button is top right.

Call me a cynic, but if the damage is serious why bother spending tons on old engine technology when you could probably pic up a much newer Zetec for not much money.

I agree with the Gaffer, it so happens I have a 1600 zetec available. The whole car in fact X reg Escort taxed ,mot, all running. 77k on the clock,, verified by hpi 5 years ago when I got it (at about 68k). Never let me down, but clutch may need doing soon, tyres needed on front at least. Open to offers (free bird poo on it too!) ;D Dave

I agree.....loads of Zetecs out there, if mine goes that's what i shall do. ;)

Willtd5

Thank you all for the advice, sorry it has taken so long to reply as I haven't had any time to play on the car for a while,  I have decided to stick with the engine I have and re build it, hopefully It will be done before the sun dissapears

This is ironic Tony.  :(  how are you getting on with yours?  Hope it's nearly fixed? :)

Willtd5

Good news hopefully the car will be up and running by the end of the month :), how's every one's cars? Enjoying the sun?

Hope all goes well. Ive been out a fair bit, roof down AND aircon on ;D

Moleman

That's another ironic story as many of you guy's know.  ::)

Touch wood ( ;)) mine's going fine but unlike the Gaffer NO air-con in the Mk.. I roasted in it coming back from work this week.
I do think my clutch is starting to go tho but then again could it just be this extreme heat having an effect?

paintman

Mine's going ok now after getting the sump done but doesn't like this not weather.

If I rant it the Hood gets very hot.....not according to the guage but the water in the over-flow bottle boils like a kettle and when initially the valve opens on the rad cap it lets water out which ends up coming through the bonnet vents and ending up in a fine spray on the windscreen!! ::)

foggy

Hi have you fitted a extra cooling fan in front of the rad so it blowers air thro it I have one on my hood ( pinto)  it has a on off switch on dash I leave my on all the time  seems to work  :P

Bulldog Bri

you could also take the thermostat out as its only there for when its cold, then you don't get the sudden release of pressure. I have.

That's a good idea and easy Bri, might do that first then if it fails get a fan.....or I could drive slower in hot weather.................. ::) ::)..........................Get a fan you say :P
