Mornin' all.

Who's the expert on here (there is always one on any forum :) ) at converting a Pinto 2l (pre-205 block) from basic twin weber setup to bike carbs?

Any help advice gratefully received. :D

And Phil G, I know I need to get on with it and mess once it's on the road, but I'm just pre-empting myself ;)

Have you read the Feb edition of Complete Kitcar ? - should still be in the shops. There's an article on tuning a pinto with bike catbs. Starts on page 50. It's more about the importance of getting the setup correct than the actual installation. I think they coverd that in the previous months edition, back issue ?

There is also a chap in the Orange county club who has done it and seems very happy with it. He lives in Cleeve I think, if you want his no. Send me a pm.

Please forgive my ignorance; what is the advantage of bike carbs over Webers?  I'm guessing the throttle slides offer less restriction than butterflies and they are more compact.  I rember we used Amals on the 8-port Minis because they would fit under the standard bonnet.

Most of the articles that I have read seem to suggest that there are generally more performance gains from bike carbs which has always surprised me. I'm no expert on this subject but I would be intersted to know why.

From what I understand, bike carbs are more easily tuneable and jet-able, more fuel effecient, smaller, lighter and much cheaper than say a pair Weber DCOE's.

Heres and interesting article on bike carbs. http://www.totalvauxhall.co.uk/resources/totalvauxhall/TOV64.tech60697.pdf

Great link, explains a lot and I guess bike carbs now have butterfly throttles, showing my age, thinking they where slides!
Thanks
