Vinyl wrapping on my Dax.

I have brought some 3D carbon fibre vinyl off of Ebay.  I want to make some stone guards on my Dax, I am not doing the normal stainless ones on the rear arches.

Is there anyone in the club who can help me put this stuff on.  There is a compound curve on the rear arch, so probably needs some heat from a heat gun.  I have got an idea how to do it, there are several video's on "you tube", but I am hoping we have an expert in our club.

thanks Mark

I also have some Di Noc 3D Carbon fibre to do my dash, when its a bit warmer anyway.

I hope to get a hand too from someone who has used this before. Seems a heat gun is very important.

Sorry guys can't help you out a lot, when they wrapped mine, I was'nt there for most of the time. They did use a heat gun, but it was'nt very hot. Nothing like a paint stripper, more like a hair dryer on a low to medium heat. They lined the vynil up,applied some heat to it and went over it with a plastic blunt edge and it just moulded itself to the shape of the car.

Well I had a go, think results are acceptable.

One big thing is you need 2 people.  1 to hold the heat source (Hair dryer on low) while you pull and stretch the vinyl.  Take your time, and hey presto.

When I can stop being a whimp an get out in the garage, it should be done by Christmas.

But not gunna tax it until end of Febuary.  Don't want to get it covered in salt.

Hairy Santa

looks like a very tidy finish indeed - well done that man

I'm liking the brushed aluminium look, and a darker carbon fiber look. Here is the pic. Both of these come in the 3M vinyl solution, so am looking for advice on fitting this to the exterior of the mirror caps. Do you folks think the vinyl would wrap properly around the shape? There is a complicated curve/kink on the back edge of the caps. Also, worried about the weather proof nature of this stuff.

Hi and a warm welcome to our club. Please feel free to do a intro post.

I know you can get the 3m stuff to go round anything with a heat gun and lots of patience - Also buy a lot more than you intend to use as there will be wastage
