Our friends at the WSCC have posted the date for their Karting Inter Club Challenge at Swindon it's on Saturday 2nd March.  This event is less competitive that my event at Bristol in November so even Moleman is in with a chance!!!!! :P  :P

I don't have the full details yet but if you are interested please put your name down below and keep watching the forum for further details.

Moleman

I did this with them last year it was really good fun.
I'm in.  ;D

Moleman

If they need people more people closer to the date to bring up numbers then I can bring at least 5 people for my own team if that helps?  ;D

THE INTER-AREA WSCC KARTING CHALLENGE -- 2013

DATE       SATURDAY 2cnd MARCH 2013
TIME      9.15 a.m. for 10.15 start
WHERE   Hangar C2 Area 1 Hackpen Lane, WROUGHTON AIRFIELD
Nr Swindon, Wilts    Tel: 01793 814340 please note that   SatNav won't work so follow web page instructions
WEB       www.swindonkarting.co.uk
COST      £135 per team of 4, preferably 5, drivers so £27 to £34 each
Here's the 2013 Inter-Area Challenge ......... to follow last year's highly successful day. I seem to remember that my Cotswold AO's Select team did not win this time and was well beaten by the Mark Purves led Chiltern 7' crew. Tom Frankland's Swindon Skidmarks team was very close behind..............a close event contested by six teams – we want more teams this year please!
TEAMS   We hope that in addition to some Cotswold teams, Mark Purves and his Chiltern Super 7's, Thames Valley lead by Tim Reid and Warwicks with Steven Mead will all repeat their strong challenges. Newcomer Mat Jackson from South Wales and possibly  teams form TVR and Marcos will be involved.
THE TRACK      I have spoken to Karen Bartlett who sells it as having a 550m length track (the longest in the South-West!) and the same excellent 270cc SODI Karts models as last year that can reach 60mph on their short straight.  Please look at their website and see what you think
FORMAT      As last year we have opted for the 2 hour Enduro format where we get the track exclusively to ourselves. We get some practice sessions followed by the Enduro competition with team drivers sharing the time. Maximum number of team/karts on the track is 10.
FOOD         A sandwich buffet will be made available at £4.50 per head – I will book this for all drivers unless you specifically opt out!
TROPHY      Naturally enough the winning team will be awarded an astounding trophy to cherish!
TERMS OF BUSINESS    each team needs to send in their 50% DEPOSIT cheque  to Karen Bartlett -- 50% of £135 say £67 with their booking --- please note that this is non-returnable (that should concentrate the minds!).
Once again it will be a fun day and scrape some of the rust off our driving skills. It should be a fun day!!! Do contact me with any refinements or comments.

BKCC will be represented by 2 teams at the Inter Club Karting organised by our friends from the WSCC.  Molemans team will be "The Rolling Road Blocks" and my team will be "Piston Broke".

So thats 1st and 2nd taken care of, I wonder which other team will complete the podium.

Moleman

So is your team going to be trashing the other karts except our teams then Ken.  :D

Krazyken

Moleman, brave words.......

I seem to remember Westiebusa saying something similar a few years ago and Joe Type R waved to him every time he lapped him.  Piston Broke consists of Krazyken, Joe Type R and 2 x 18 year old whippets.  It's gonna be fun!!! :-* :-* :-*

I am please to report that

PISTON BROKE WON ;D :o :P :-*

It was a great event with Piston Broke made up of an old fart (me) and 3 other 18 year old whippets.  Having said that all of our best lap times were within 0.4secs of each other.  The winning margin over the team in second was 2.5 laps so luckily the most consistent team on lap times.

Due to the cold track and not having driven there for 2 years Joe Type R only qualified in 4th, 1.5secs behind the polesitter.  At this point I did wonder if we had a duff kart but it didn't seem that way when I drove in practice. It was just Joe taking time to familiarise himself with the kart and the track again.  At the start there was the usual bumping and fighting for position which meant Joe found himself in 6th after the 1st lap.  From that point on it was vintage Joe, got his head down worked out where to save time with a better faster line, carried more speed through the corners and picked off the karts in front one by one until after 10 mins he hit the front.

As we got lost on the way to the venue we were not in the main briefing so did not hear Andrew Reeves (event organiser) instructions that each driver had to do 2 stints.  When I asked about stops before the race, the Race Director said it was up to us to sort out our own tactics, we then planned to drive a full half an hour each.  Towards the end of Joes first stint, Joe was 1.5 laps in the lead and it was only a chance discussion with Molemans team that we discovered we all had to have the same number of driver changes and pit stops.  After discovering this we amended our strategy accordingly and I found Andrew Reeves the organiser to explain what had happened.  As I was due to drive stint 3, to make up for Joes missed stop I offered to do one lap get out of the kart then get back in so that we would be all square again which I did.  What I was not expecting was the pit lane marshall telling me to run round a tyre 10 feet away with all my race gear on before getting back in the kart again.  This dropped us from 1st to 2nd but nonetheless we would not get penalised or worse disqualified.  My first stint I was not particularly happy with and due to a heavy cold had to breathe through my mouth which quickly went dry with the cold air.  When my 15 mins were up I handed over to Curtis and somehow I had managed to get us back in front with a 15 second lead.  Although I didn't feel it was a particularly good stint, no one overtook me and my lap times were consistent if a little off the pace of my team mates.

As Joe had done his full driving it was down to Josh, me & Curtis in that order to complete the remainder of the 2 hours.  As my first stint had been slower than the others I asked Joe to only give me 10 mins so as not to slow the team down so that Curtis could bring the kart home.  Believing I only had 10 mins I just went for it, forced myself to breathe through my nose so as not to get another dry throat and concentrated on putting in the best consistent laps I could.  It went very well, again no-one overttook me and I got lucky with the back markers and managed to cut through them without being delayed.  Unbeknown to me Joe was monitoring my progress on the pit wall and because I was lapping so quickly and consitently kept me out for the full 15 mins.  During my stint I also lapped the kart in second and with pit stops balancing up, handed over to Curtis for the last stint with a 2.5 lap lead which he held to the end of the race.  I was genuinely amazed to learn how well my 2nd stint had gone but at the same time was pleased that in my 50th year I could still keep up with the "Young Guns"

I must not forget Moleman who I rang the night before the event for a good wind up, his team Rolling Road Blocks at one point dropped down to last place.  With what must have been a miracle from God, or taking the spark plugs out of the other karts, or maybe just some good driving Rolling Road Block finished 4th.  So of the 2 BKCC teams entered we finished 1st and 4th - a great BKCC effort, happy to fly the flag for BKCC and uphold the honour of the club.

Of course the next karting event is my charity event at Team Sport, Avonmouth, Bristol in November.  That gives the rest of you all year to get fit and practice!!  That means you Hairy Santa so get that triple bacon butty out of your mouth, get down the gym and out on the track. :P :-*

It was a great event and a big thank you to Andrew Reeves of the WSCC for organising the event especially as he did not drive.  See you all in November where we need the BKCC to enter at least 4 teams and help raise over £1300 for charity.

£1300 raised for charity  8) Great when this happens.
So it looks like it was a great day out for all. We had a long night with the grandson and failed to come along to see the action, bummer. Still glad it went ok for you guys  ;)

Moleman

We had a great time. I had to start at the back due to a bad qualifiying.  :-[
But took at least 3 spaces on the first lap then continued to take more over my first stint making us 4th by then.  :o
We then hovered from 4th to 7th for a while until we ended up fighting for 3rd spot in the end.
What let us down was we had 5 in our team so had to do 2 extra pit stops handing the 3rd spot to another team.  :(
We was the top team of 5 members though & like Ken I was never overtaken & injoyed carving my way through the field.  :o which is a new experience for me.
It was a really good day. thanks to Andrew for arranging it.

Krazyken

Moleman, just need to get yourself 3 young whippets ready for next year.
