Got to work in the garage this weekend repairing Crash Test Dummy's car.

He had an interesting experience coming back from the Redhill breakfast meet last week. 

Country lanes are a real threat to low cars when the tarmac has sunk from heavy agricultural vehicles and there are mounds of grass in the middle!

Well, the number-plate survived cos I fitted the new one on a hinge - perfect response.  Sadly the sump hit the Grassy Knoll in the centre and enough to bounce the engine on the engine bearers.  This started a chain reaction of events - where the engine lifted, tipped back about 8mm and a jubilee clip on the secondary water circuit bumped a chassis bar.  The Thermostat housing was surprisingly a casting and not an injection moulding and it snapped a spiggot clean off.  The cloud of dust thrown up was so great he failed to see the cloud of steam but could see the spewing cloud when he arrived home one mile later.

It turned out to be an easy fix but with some complications.  Used a Focus Mk1 housing but had to drill in a new temperature sensor hole for the ECU and had to relocated the water gauge sensor to a nearby pipe.

While we were about it we decided to put an isolator in the heater water circuit because it was capable of removing skin from bare legs in summer even when switched-off.  You can't just shut it off so it has to be closed and bypassed.  I set about it with two quality gate valves and 15mm copper pipes and joints.  It was pleasingly neat and better still not a single drop leaked even under pressure. 

Now he can pick-up bikini clad beach-babes again - result!

I can guess what you mean about low cars and country lane type roads. As the back lane from my garage is much the same and I've felt the underside of the Locost scraping larger stones left in it a couple of times, I now try to drive with one wheel almost in the middle of the lane to keep a bit more distance from the laneway.
