Hi I'm after a bit of help after a kit car chassis or a part finished project that I can build from looking to fit a motorbike engine into it or a redtop engine c20xe undecided yet :) but also needs to be a decent price and not overpriced any help will be appreciated.

Seb,

Good to hear from you again.  There is a finished project going for a very reasonable price and it is a super high performer on the track.  It is not you normal kit car but it is a very special animal.  This is not a lot of money at all for a very special high performance car with trailer.

Otherwise unfinished projects come up a lot but mainly in the Spring.  Some never get finished because they are being poorly built - don't pay too much or avoid them, some due to ill-health or other change of life circumstance.  If you build it yourself you will have to pass the IVA test which many find a challenge.  If you buy one already finished you can upgrade or change it - then it only needs to pass an MoT and be correctly recorded with the DVLA.  Look on e-bay for unfinished projects - tens of them appear every year.

First you need to decide what you want it for - road or race or both.  Any weather or fair weather only.  That then starts to shape you choices.  M/C engines are good for racing but are harder to drive on the road and they are more stressed and cooling is not so easy.

Any engine in a light car gives impressive performance.

If you build your car light at about 500Kg and fit a 150 BHp engine you will be achieving around 250 BHp per tonne (with driver) which would give sub-5 seconds 0-60 times.  if you go M/C you could say choose a 170BHp engine and save 60Kg in weight and approach 280BHp per tonne and you would then be sub-4.5 0-60 most likely.

Keep positing your questions and we will get you there.

Good luck
Ian

Hi Ian thanks for the message I'm looking for more the original shape kit car know can't be to fussy and I can't help but love the sound from the mb engine and gbox wow but I know coming from redruth in cornwall will be highly impractical so maybe a car engine ie redtop would be better and looking for using it in fair weather only (I like the wind in my hair) and get bored easily so would be over used if I planned to use it all weather's just trying to find one cheap enough and where it's been abandoned at a decent stage.

Facial Hair Optional

They come up pretty much every week on eBay Seb, try there.
